Overview

This second level workshop is for participants with a specific idea of what they want to write, and have at least 1000 (max. 1500) words already written in the form of a draft, or concept note, or character descriptions,  or an outline for a book or a series of articles, a set of stories, a novel…

Participants will pre-send this material to Living Bridge*. In the workshop, each participant will decide how much they will grow or expand their material over the course of the workshop. The mentor will help you think through and take your material forward, flesh it out, either as a complete piece or a substantial part of a larger piece of writing.

Please keep yourself relatively free of commitments for the first day, even after the workshop timings, as there will be ‘homework’ for the next day’s session.

The group will be smaller than the Basics of Creative Writing Workshop (Step 1), of just 10 people, as we will work intensively on each person’s material.

The workshop will be held from 10:00 to 13:00 over two weekends.

*Instructions for submission will be given to you immediately after you register.

Creative Writing 2 Intermediate

SYLLABUS

At the workshop participants will be guided to:

  • Discover and detail the core-central theme of your work
  • Learn about characterization in the show-not-tell mode
  • Form a structure/plot/argument which can be later fleshed out
  • Edit and evaluate your own work
  • Study the use of dialogue in fiction writing and human-interest additions in non-fiction

At the end of the workshop, participants will have a better grip on their material, the direction in which they want to take it further, and a momentum to their writing practice.

Speechless, spell bound, hungry for more, the best mentor I have had in my life.. Due to your hand holding have written 2 short stories already.. Couldnt have asked for a better platform to learn this skill. Am eagerly awaiting to lap up the Film appreciation work shop and eventually the Scriptwriting. Your workshop has brought out the best in my Gauri maam and has revealed a side of my personality which i was unaware of.. Thanks for being the best teacher ever!!

Creative Writing II: Fleshing out your Idea

cannot recommend enough this splendid workshop for those struggling with how to get past an initial idea, draft or set of thoughts. Gouri Dange is a fabulously intuitive, thorough and empathetic guide, using her vast writing and editing experience to take one past inertia, tentativeness or even sheer petrification. Also wonderful is the format of the workshop that requires one to listen as much as speak and encourages the learner to push their writing boundaries. My suggestions for those seeking to take this workshop are to come prepared with an initial set of thoughts and to commit to spending time and effort on the homework assignments.

Many thanks to Gouri for crucial help with my stuck-in-time ideas which since the workshop I have been able to consistently work on and improve to the point where I see a finished work in the near future. Thanks also to Living Bridge for expert and patient facilitation

Helped me to refine my first draft!

Sometimes, we as a writer tend to explore and wonder in the our memory lanes. Thinking and imagining characters, plots, and stories in our heads, how often do we pick up a paper a flesh it out?
In my case, it was one of the main concerns.
Being working on a book for a year now, I somehow got stuck in the overwhelming process of writing a novel. Fleshing out your ideas is a kind of a workshop that would help you rebuild the character, guide you to add some depth and rework on the required scenes & dialogues.
And as said writing a novel can be easy but rewriting it is a nightmare task.
Thus, this workshop helps me to regain that courage and knowledge to work on my novel for one more time and make it to the finishing line.

Thank you so much Living Bridge and Gouri Ma’am for creating and conducting such a helpful workshop.
