Overview

This second level workshop is for participants with a specific idea of what they want to write, and have at least 1000 (max. 1500) words already written in the form of a draft, or concept note, or character descriptions,  or an outline for a book or a series of articles, a set of stories, a novel…

Participants will pre-send this material to Living Bridge*. In the workshop, each participant will decide how much they will grow or expand their material over the course of the workshop. The mentor will help you think through and take your material forward, flesh it out, either as a complete piece or a substantial part of a larger piece of writing.

Please keep yourself relatively free of commitments for the first day, even after the workshop timings, as there will be ‘homework’ for the next day’s session.

The group will be smaller than the Basics of Creative Writing Workshop (Step 1), of just 10 people, as we will work intensively on each person’s material.

The workshop will be held from 10:00 to 13:00 over two weekends.

*Instructions for submission will be given to you immediately after you register.

  1. If you are looking for that push you need to get you to start writing, this is it. For me, the exercises were a huge help. They were interactive, made me think and got me finally where I needed to be in terms of finding the right ‘voice’ for my story. Gouri ma’am made all of us feel extremely comfortable and less inhibited in taking risks with our stories.

  2. I have attended the basics of creative writing workshop with Gouri ma’am and was fortunate and lucky to attend this one too! I found it amazing the exercise, different forms of writing really broadened my horizons. Also since Gouri ma’am has so much experience she could guide us so well with the possibility of where to head with our material. It was indeed a lot of fun and very helpful. Thanks so much Aziz sir always inspired by your dedication and promptness of helping and keeping things running. 🙂

  3. I came to this Workshop with a specific aim: to ‘cut the academic clutter’ from my writing and bring a freshness to it. I must say that Gouri Dange’s expert but empathetic interventions have achieved all this and much more. I love her feel for language; she has this uncanny ability to pick up a single false note in your writing and and offer sound advice on its re-crafting, – be it in the choice of words/ vocabulary, sentence structures, plot construction or characterisation. Above all, she trains you and challenges you to exercise your own judgement by drawing attention to the features peculiar to your writing.
Her warm presence inspires confidence and creates great bonding among the participants. You enjoy every moment of the process and you learn to enjoy the writing and the re-writing from some newly acquired perspectives.

  4. whether you are a completely new writer or a published one, this workshop will show you many ways of getting deeper into the writing process.

Mentor Gouri tells you many ways of taking your story apart to examine the many nuances and helps you out them back again. You writing becomes much richer, much more real when you go through the workshop.

I now have do many ways 9f examining some stories which have been languishing in my mind or simply taking up space in my computer.

The mentor, Gouri is a fabulous person, genuinely empathetic, witty and hugely experienced.

I recommend the workshop very strongly. It was a most energizing thing I have done in a long while.

Thank you, Living Bridge for organizing this. Great work. Keep it up.

  5. If you are one of the people who cannot get past a blank page this is a perfect place to go. I personally feel this workshop gave me a new perspective on things and fleshing out our ideas into a story. Thank you Gauri ma’am and thank you Living Bridge for this unique opportunity

  6. if you are one of those who is trapped in your own planet to write out the thought and story looming large inside your head – then I suggest you take this cosmic tour with Living Bridge along with few enlightened co-travelers. By the end of this tour you shall land on your very own moon!!
Gouri Dange is an intuitive, learned Navigator who will teach you, nudge you, throw you to the edges of your comfort – and finally guide you to your own compass to give your writing – your voice and identity.
It is an amazing travel through cosmos, where you shall find about ten to twelve different voices of co-authors – each collectively learning from Ms.Gouri Dange and individually inspired and directed to their own pieces.
If you have an idea and a will to learn – this is the best universe to belong 🙂
Thank you Living Bridge, Ms.Gouri Dange and all my co-participants for all the learning and sharing,
A special shout out to Ms.Gouri Dange for being the kind of author who can teach and inspire writing in others!!

  7. A very good course if you are lost amidst writing your story. Don’t know how to proceed and are trying different things. This course also makes you think in directions to mine your characters and plots.

  8. Sometimes, we as a writer tend to explore and wonder in the our memory lanes. Thinking and imagining characters, plots, and stories in our heads, how often do we pick up a paper a flesh it out?
In my case, it was one of the main concerns.
Being working on a book for a year now, I somehow got stuck in the overwhelming process of writing a novel. Fleshing out your ideas is a kind of a workshop that would help you rebuild the character, guide you to add some depth and rework on the required scenes & dialogues.
And as said writing a novel can be easy but rewriting it is a nightmare task.
Thus, this workshop helps me to regain that courage and knowledge to work on my novel for one more time and make it to the finishing line.

Thank you so much Living Bridge and Gouri Ma’am for creating and conducting such a helpful workshop.

  9. This workshop provides a very good space for studying the craft of story writing though hands-on and interactive approach.

  10. cannot recommend enough this splendid workshop for those struggling with how to get past an initial idea, draft or set of thoughts. Gouri Dange is a fabulously intuitive, thorough and empathetic guide, using her vast writing and editing experience to take one past inertia, tentativeness or even sheer petrification. Also wonderful is the format of the workshop that requires one to listen as much as speak and encourages the learner to push their writing boundaries. My suggestions for those seeking to take this workshop are to come prepared with an initial set of thoughts and to commit to spending time and effort on the homework assignments.

Many thanks to Gouri for crucial help with my stuck-in-time ideas which since the workshop I have been able to consistently work on and improve to the point where I see a finished work in the near future. Thanks also to Living Bridge for expert and patient facilitation
